Cops scolded for
lack of courtesy

Police Regional Office-6 Deputy Director for Administration Senior Supt. Ernesto Tesoro yesterday reprimanded the policemen who attended the back-to-basics refreshers course at the Bacolod City government Center for lack of courtesy, City Police Director Senior Supt. Celestino Guara said.

Guara said the policemen were individually asked by Tesoro to speak before their colleagues and he noticed that some of them did not greet them “good morning”.

There were complaints before, especially from mediamen, that there are policemen who are not courteous in answering phone calls, Guara said.

Tesoro reminded the policemen to be courteous all the time in responding to public concerns.

The week-long back-to-basics refreshers course of 52 organic members of the BCPO ended yesterday but Guara said he is expecting changes especially in police operational procedures and courtesy.

Guara also said that the refresher course is not only for erring and non-performing policemen as all of them will undergo the same seminar, as ordered by Philippine National Police Director General Raul Balaso.

Police records also show that 231 policemen in Region 6 are facing administrative charges before the PNP Legal Service department.

The back-to-basic program of Bacalzo is aimed at improving and developing a better image for the organization that has recently been rocked by reports of rogue policemen involved in kidnapping, maltreatment, murder and use of prohibited drugs, and they include a policeman assigned in Negros Occidental.*APN
