Shabu peddler draws life term

The Special Court for Drug Cases sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the sale of 0.01gram of shabu, and to pay a fine of P500,000 Friday, at the Hall of Justice in Dumaguete City.

Cristitu Ramirez was arrested in a buy-bust operation by joint operative of the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Dumaguete City Police station at Zone 4, Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City last April 28, 2008.

He had sold one heat-sealed transparent plastic with the shabu to poseur buyer on said date.

Dauin targets revenue hike

Mayor Neil Credo of Dauin, Negros Oriental said the town aims for an increase in revenues this year, mostly from the town’s thriving tourism industry.

Dauin is the host municipality of the internationally famed dive destination, Apo Island, and has the most number of beach resorts in the province totaling 14, Credo added.

Credo also said Dauin earned more than P12 million in 2010 and it hopes to increase this by at least P1 million this year.

Participation urged in
disaster risk mgmt

Local government units and  barangay officials in Negros Oriental must take a more active role in preventing and responding to disasters amid visible changes in weather patterns brought about by climate change, Allen Cabaron, Civil Defense coordinator of Negros Oriental, said yesterday.

Cabaron  admitted the need to strengthen coordination among major players in disaster risk reduction and management, because of  observations about the absence of uniform reporting in the  recent flooding incident that claimed the lives of at least four people.
