Party-list lawmakers launched yesterday the Organic Food Festival at the House of Representatives to showcase sustainable agriculture produce and techniques that will help the country attain food self-sufficiency, bio-safety and sustainable agriculture, a government press release said.
"This event will also help in advocating among our fellow legislators in the House the need to seriously look into our government’s efforts at attaining food security while keeping tabs on bio-safety that involves public health and environmental risks," Bayan Muna Party-list Rep. Teddy Casiño said.

Recent innovations implemented by the Bacolod City government on its one-stop-shop business permits processing system has sped up the issuance and renewal of business permits this year.
Records yesterday showed that the total number of business permits renewed from January to December 2010 was 9,874 compared to 9,252 in just 13 days this year.
There were also 13,291 business permits issued in 2010 compared to 3,915 January this year.
P83-M in projects
The Provincial Veterinary Office has implemented P83 million worth of projects under the Negros First Development Priority Agenda of Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. to alleviate the livestock and poultry industry of the province, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena said yesterday.
Decena said the province aims to be sufficient in the livestock and poultry industry and to provide livelihood and income to all Negrenses.
