The Communist Party of the Philippines yesterday dismissed as “pure psywar hogwash” military claims that many red fighters were killed in gunbattles in Negros island.
Frank Fernandez, spokesman of the National Democratic Front-Negros, lashed out at Col. Jonas Sumagaysay, assistant division commander of the 3ID, for spreading what he called as “preposterous lies”, in tandem with military spokespersons and psywar experts, against the revolutionary movement.
Sumagaysay had claimed that a widening rift exists among NPA leaders, and that there have been summary execution of rebels suspected as government agents, and deaths of numerous red fighters in Calatrava and Toboso, Negros Occidental and Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
Fernandez said Sumagaysay was unable to produce even one body of a fallen NPA fighter .
In Negros, he added, the AFP victories over the people’s revolution exist only in Sumagaysay’s delusion.
Ka Cecil Estrella, spokesperson of the Roselyn Pelle Command in northern Negros, in a statement, said he issued that Sumagaysay is in high fever in his dreams that the NPA is demoralized, fighting and killing each other.
Estrella said “ Don’t overdo your wishful thinking, or you end up with nightmares if you encounter the truth”.
Sumagaysay meanwhile, said the NPA leadership was ordered to deny their casualties, and keep them secret from their families, to avoid further demoralization among their rank-and-file members.
Military records show that 17 active members have surrendered to the 11th Infantry Battalion from January to June, while two ranking NPA leaders in Negros Oriental were captured military and police operations.
In reality, however, Fernandez and Estrella claimed, the NPA is steadily growing in Negros and is strongly united, based on principles and commitment for the cause of national liberation and democracy.* GPB
