Guimaras Gov. Felipe Nava yesterday said the building of two bridges to interconnect Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros estimated to cost P27 billion is a long shot for now.
“Up to now it is just a plan, there is nothing definite about it because of the cost that will be involved,” Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco, chairman of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council, also said.
Nava said a study funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency through the Department of Public Works and Highways conducted from 2006 to 2008 for bridges from Iloilo to Guimaras, and Guimaras to Negros states that they will cost about P27 million.
The proposed target is 2011 to 2015 for the Iloilo to Guimaras bridge, and 2016 to 2020 ffor the Guimaras to Negros, he said.
However, their construction will depend on whether there are funds for them, Nava said.
Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr. said there is also an alternate proposal for a bridge that will connect Negros, from EB Magalona town to Iloilo.*CPG
