Brutally slain man
found in river: PNP

The body of an unidentified man apparently killed brutally was found floating in the Brgy. Alijis river in  Bacolod City, early yesterday morning.

Station 7 commander, Chief Insp. Levy Pangue, said Purok Roadside chairman Myrna Belardo informed them of the discovery of the body.

Roel Belano, 36, of Purok Roadside told the police that he was fishing at the river bank at about 8 a.m. when he saw the body floating and immediately reported it to Belardo.

A T-shirt was seen tied around the victim’s neck and a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth when the body was fished out, Pangue said.

Initial investigation showed that the victim bore at least 30 stab wounds, and might have been already dead when the suspect or suspects dumped his body into the river, Pangue also said.

He described the victim to be about 50 years old, around 5 feet and 6 inches in height, slim and clad in black T-shirt and shorts. He added that the body is now at the St. Peter’s Memorial Chapels in Brgy. Alijis.

The victim was not from Brgy. Alijis as none of the residents could identify him, Pangue said.

Meanwhile, an inmate of the Negros Occidental Provincial jail was stabbed and injured by his fellow inmate at his cell at about 1 p.m. yesterday.

Provincial jail warden Insp. Dionesio Silva identified the injured  inmate as Cesar Tubali of Murcia town, Negros Occidental.

Silva said Tubali was preparing his things for their transfer to the new provincial jail building in Bago City yesterday when he and inmate Richard Saneco of La Castellana town fought over a box, and Saneco stabbed Tubali on the back with a spoon. He was rushed  to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he is now confined.

Meanwhile, a man was also rushed to CLMMRH when he was stabbed by his neighbor at about 10 p.m. Wednesday in Brgy., Villamonte, Bacolod.

Station 4 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, yesterday identified the victim as Steve Pesalbo, 32, of Purok Sabes in Brgy. Villamonte.

A verbal tussle between Pesalbo and the suspect, identified as Winnie Casas, 26, led to the stabbing, a police  investigation showed.*APN
