Negros players not keen
on joining PBaRS 3rd leg

All is set for the 3rd leg of the Philippine Badminton Ranking System in Davao City on July 31 up to August 6, but Negros players are not keen on joining the competition.

Melanie Sabino, a parent of one Negros players who complained before the PBaRS about an over-aged player fielded by the Laguna-based Whackers Badminton Academy, said she does not know if anybody from Negros will compete in Davao.

Sabino said she welcomes the approval of the Philippine Badminton Association on the sanctions meted by the PBaRS against the over-aged player Diane Ocampo, her coach Juanito Lamanilao, and the Whackers academy on the cheating incident in Bacolod City during the second leg of the tournament.

Bautista, who hails from Himamaylan, made his mark in the tournament by beating bigger opponents who are several years older than him, including European Champion Alexander Somoilov of Russia in the qauarterfinals.

“On behalf of the people of the City of Himamaylan, I wish to extend my sincerest congratulations and appreciation to Yan-Yan Bautista,” Bascon said in a statement sent to the DAILY STAR.
