DepEd launches project on skills
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Department of Education Dumaguete City Division launched “Project MTS” or Maximizing Totality of Skills at the city high gymnasium yesterday.

City schools division superintendent, Dr. Ramir Uytico, said Project MTS aims to increase the academic performance of school children in the city through the integration of culture and the arts in the curriculum.

Records show that the city division ranks only 12 for out of the 20 divisions in the entire region in terms of its academic performance.

During the division general assembly and MTS launching ceremony, Dr Uytico stressed three things as the guiding principle of the DepEd family.

First is for everyone to be competent enough to deal with the academic needs of school children and in everything that they do, second is for them to have life skills, in empowering the teachers to solve problems within their level, Uytico’s request to the teaching and non-teaching staff of the division is to have a positive character and respect for everyone.

He said that regardless of the rank and position, everyone in the division should show mutual respect to the parents, students and teachers alike.

Present at the Project MTS launching were Gov. Roel Degamo, Rep. George Arnaiz (Negros Oriental 2nd District), Vice Mayor Alan Cordova, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, and councilors Manny Arbon and Antonio Remollo.*JG
