Royal Star Trading entered the semifinals defeating JSY Transport, 77-69, and JSY Countertrade bowed out of the semifinals losing to Organic Solutions, 87-78, in Class B of the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Intercolor Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
The win gave Royal Star its third win in seven outings, same record with JSY Transport. Both teams can only reach as high as third place in the standings.
Royal Star kept a 37-33 lead at the half but surrendered the advantage midway in the third quarter as Celhelm Uy executed outstanding inside incursions for JSY Transport.
Recovering in time to put a cap on JSY’s rally, Royal Star bounced back and registered a 62-53 lead as their shooters hit their mark from behind the three-point area.
Leading as much as 15 points, Royal Star barely held on as JSY once again mounted a comeback via fastbreak attacks to score seven straight points and cut the lead.
Missed free throws and crucial turnovers on JSY Transport side benefited Royal Transport as the team iced the game behind the steady free throw shooting of Monroe Chua and Ralph Richard Tan, the latter finishing with 22 points.
Ryan Tumbagahan and Celhelm Uy finished with 12 points for JSY Transport.
Meanwhile, Organic finished the elimination round with a 6-2 win-loss cared and assumed temporary leadership in Class B.
In winning against JSY Countertrade, Organic had a balanced scoring led by Julius Teruel, who delivered 21 points and Biboy Yap with 15 points.
The trio of Jolly Castillo, Jeremy Coo and Tubby Villanueva, who combined for 39 points spearheaded JSY Countertrade’s losing effort.*with a report from Stephen Tan
