Capiz willing to host
16th University Games

The Province of Capiz and the City of Roxas are willing to host the 16th University Games if University of St. La Salle will not accept this year’s hosting chore.

This after UniGames president Roger Banzuela said the USLS administration has yet to confirm its acceptance of hosting the annual sports event late this year.

Banzuela said he has already submitted a letter to the school and hopes to receive a response soon.

Should USLS turn down the hosting of the games, he said they will award the opportunity of hosting the competition to the province of Capiz.

While it will be advantageous to local schools for the games to be held at the USLS, Banzuela said they were assured of free access to venues in Capiz like the Cornelio Villareal Sports Complex for athletics, basketball, swimming, football and softball.

Billeting centers and transportation could pose a minor problem, Banzuela said.

The National University Games was organized in 1996 and was a brainchild of former USLS president Rolando R. Dizon. The last time the USLS hosted the games was in 2007. Last year, it was held at Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.*NAB
