Partners for life

They were two teenagers in school who felt a strong attraction for each other. Slowly “puppy love” blossomed into a meaningful relationship through the years until finally, Niño finished his course at the family-owned Visayan Maritime Academy.

After graduation, he began working for their Orophil Shipping International company as a Chief Mate on board ocean-going vessels abroad while Ester worked with a travel agency.

Despite being far apart, the two kept in constant touch through long distance calls, emails and text messages. Finally, on a beautiful day in June, Niño Orola Salabas and lovely Esternil Labaro, were wed in afternoon rites at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish and Shrine, attended by family, relatives and close friends.

The bride looked so appealingly young and fresh in her elegant wedding gown while the groom looked debonaire and handsome in his formal attire. His mother, Beth, couldn’t help shedding a tear as she remembered her  late husband “Dodong”, who would have been proud of his son Niño, had he lived to see this day.

The reception was held at La Proa Ballroom, L ‘Fisher Hotel, which was soon filled with their happy guests. Everyone enjoyed the sumptuous four-course meal, enough to satiate the discerning guests’ palates. The atmosphere that night was full of love, reflecting the love shared by their family and friends expressed through their heartfelt speeches.

The details of this night may eventually fade away but everyone went home with a lasting impression of a wonderful young love that has stood the test of time and distance.*
