unbeaten in TKP

Province of Negros Occidental dealt Manila Beer a 10-point blow to top the elimination round with an unblemished record of seven wins in as many outings in Class A of the 11th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

With its unbeaten record, the Capitol guys moved to the semifinal round along with Davies Paint/Republic Hardware after the latter prevailed over Kendrick/Supreme/Eversure, 97-84 in their weekend match-up.

NPBC paces bowlfest

NPBC RJ Stars continued to lead the NSL organized Five-Man Team Bowling Tournament at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

With four more rounds left, RJ Stars’ Steve Po, Jam Morales, Gil Villagante, Rowena Juarez, Edjie Balayo, Buddy Ferrer, Cero Cordova, Rey Gargar and Hernand Garciniego lead the overall tally with 13,606 pinfalls, 27 pins ahead of NOHS All Stars piloted by Iran Pielago and Cesar Sumaylo with 13,579.

Kami Mga Hubin managed by Edgar De Leon is now third from ninth, with 13,290 followed by Eco-saver with 13,287.

Senate lauds Donaire

The Senate adopted yesterday two resolutions commending Filipino boxing champion Nonito "The Flash" Donaire Jr. for his second-round victory over Mexican pug Fernando Montiel to win two crowns at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Filed by Senators Pia Cayetano and Lito Lapid, the resolutions said the Philippine Senate has in several occasions paid tribute to outstanding Filipino athletes and Donaire is no exception due to his astonishing feat that gave another pride and glory to the country.

“The Senate commends Nonito 'The Filipino Flash' Donaire Jr. for successfully bagging the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization Bantamweight Crowns,” the resolutions stated.
