2011 WVRAA

Around 3,500 athletes and delegates are expected to participate in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association set in Iloilo City on March 20-24.

Department of Education Iloilo Division Superintendent Raymundo Lapating said that all the provinces in Western Visayas are expected to join the competition which will open on on March 20 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Up for grabs are gold, silver, and bronze medals in 15 sports events to be played at the Sports Complex, La Paz Plaza, Central Philippine University, West Visayas State University, Shoemart (SM) City, Gaisano City Mall, and the Robinson’s Mall.

Lapating said the provincial government fully supports the event.

Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. had the provincial government-owned Sports Complex, the main venue of the competition, repaired and rehabilitated.

The governor has released P15 million for the renovation of the gymnasium alone, while repairs on the rubberized oval track has already started, reports from the regional DepEd office said.*NAB
