Mayor favors stamping out
‘swertres’ in Negros Oriental

BUT SEEKS ELIMINATION OF PCSO-RUN GAME, TOO
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Mayor Ernesto Reyes of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, said he strongly supports calls for the elimination of the illegal numbers game called “swertres,” provided it will also include the legalized one which is run by the government-owned Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Reyes issued the statement in the wake of a relentless campaign against all forms of illegal gambling and illegal drugs in the province.

He challenged government to look for other means to increase revenues, and not rely on proceeds from legalized forms of gambling.

Province gives additional
P7-M for board walk project

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degano yesterday said he wants to prove his critics wrong that his assurance to continue the projects of the late governor Emilio Macias II was mere lip service.

The governor announced an additional appropriation of P7 million for the completion of the board walk in Tanjay City.

The governor said he was amazed upon seeing the improvement of the board walk project during an ocular inspection on Sunday, together with Luka barangay captain Denver Bokingkito, who is also the Association of Barangay Captains president in Tanjay City.
