One killed,
1 injured in knife duel

Two men stabbed each other and one was killed and the other wounded at about 2:07 a.m. yesterday in Brgy 19, Bacolod City.

The fatality was identified as Peter Lamique, 40, of Galo Street, Bacolod City, and the one injured was identified as Rene Manigo, 28, of Purok Riverside in Brgy Bata, Bacolod, by case investigator Police Officer 2 Ronald Villeran.

Investigation showed that Lamique, who was renting a room in a boarding house, went to Manigo’s rented room, woke him up and invited him for a drink.

Later, the two fought and this led to the stabbing. Witnesses also claimed that Manigo was able to flee but Lamique chased him, but this is yet to be confirmed, Villeran said.

Police records showed that Manigo sustained stab wounds on his back, left armpit and left brow, while Lamique was hit in his abdomen and left armpit.

The two were rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital but Lamique was declared dead on arrival, police records also showed.

Manigo was treated at the same hospital but was later endorsed to Villeran, Police Officer 2 Rey Escañan and Police Officer 1 Roger Sagre and is now in the custody of Police Station 4.

Villeran said Manigo claimed that he only defended himself. He added that further investigation also showed that the two had engaged in a heated argument several weeks ago over a lost key.

Frustrated homicide charges are now being readied against Manigo. Lamique’s body is now at the Alisbo Memorial Chapels at Lacson Street, Bacolod.*APN
