P1-M zip line mulled at lake
BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Negros Oriental provincial government has allocated P1 million for the installation of a zip line as an add-on tourism activity at Lake Balanan in Siaton town.

Governor Roel Degamo, in his visit to Lake Balanan with Board Member Erwin Michael Macias recently, said he has seen the potential for an extreme sports activity in the lake.  The governor admitted that extreme sports is now the latest activity for both local and foreign tourists.

Degamo has asked Macias to finalize the needed documents and the project design for its implementation. He emphasized that the design should be made such that it will minimize the disturbance to the trees and other natural growths.

Macias  introduced the idea to Degamo as part of the plan to further improve the tourism industry of Negros Oriental.

Macias believes that Lake Balanan is a good tourism destination, because aside from the zipline, there are other adventure sports activities that can be done in the lake such as kayaking, trekking and mountain-climbing.

The lake also has a hotel and restaurant, and swimming pools supported by crystal clear spring water.

Lake Balanan is managed by the Lake Balanan Development Authority.*MA
