Our papa is cheating
on our mother

Dear Tita,

Our mother was the breadwinner of our family. She was a teacher while our father was always out of a job because of his temper and his laziness. I am the eldest of three children and when her salary was hardly enough to keep our family going, Mama decided to go abroad and work as a caregiver to enable us to finish our schooling. We were so sad when she left but we knew she had to sacrifice for us. When she began sending money for us, our lifestyle improved a lot. We were able to move to a better place to live and there was always food on the table. Our father kept going out with his friends especially at night. He stopped looking for work as the money our mother sent was enough for our needs.

Mama kept telling us how much she missed us but she knew we were doing good in school as I sent her copies of our report cards which made her very happy. After working abroad for almost eight years, Mama told us she was ready to come home as she had saved enough so she could put up a small business here. My brother and I are now working after we finished our college course and our youngest sibling is graduating this year. My problem is how to tell Mama that our father has another family after he lived in with a younger woman. They have two kids. He used the money Mama sent him to spend on his other family. He told us that since my brother and I are both working, we don’t need the money that Mama sends him. We even had to spend for our youngest schooling so he could finish his course. We kept this from our mother because we know it would break her heart and we don’t want her to get hurt. Now that she is coming home, should we tell her before she gets shock when she comes?

CONCERNED DAUGHTER

Dear Concerned Daughter,

You should have told your mother a long time ago. She worked so hard to be able to send money for her family and all this time, she didn’t know that the money she slaved for, was being spent for your father’s second family. Go ahead and tell her. She has a right to know.

TITA
