BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Text messages calling on people to take precautions against the effects of the nuclear leak in Fukushima, Japan yesterday has resulted in rush to buy betadine in local drug stores in Dumaguete City.

Upon receiving the text message , a local company immediately issued betadine solution to each employee.

The text message said that Japan has confirmed radiation leaks at the Fukushima nuclear plants and in advising Asian countries to take the necessary precautions and to stay indoorsduring the first 24 hours, following the so called nuclear leak.

It further advises residents to swab their neck skin with betadine where thyroid area is located, and that the radiation will hit the country starting 4 p.m. yesterday.

However, another text message countered the earlier text messages as a hoax and government agencies denied a radioactive leaks would reach the Philippines yesterday.*JG
