nominated to int’l tilt

Bacoleña Ma. Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, the president and founder of the Visayan Forum Foundation has been nominated as one of the Prize Laureates for 2011 by the World’s Children’s Prize Foundation based in Mariefred, Sweden. She was nominated with two others from Africa and Bangladesh, Salavador Acupan, VFFI Regional coordinator, said in a press release.

Oebanda is from Barangay Banago, Bacolod City, and was once a political prisoner, he said.

The 15-member International Children Jury nominated Oebanda for her 20-year struggle against child labor and human trafficking, he added.

The World Children’s Prize Foundation program for young people on the rights of the child, democracy, the environment and global friendship aims to contribute towards a more humane world, the press release said.

Anyone who is under 18 years old and part of a school, children’s group or organization that is registered as a Global Friend is allowed to vote. Deadline of submission of votes is April 22, 2011 and the awarding ceremonies will be held on April 28 at Gripsholm Castle in Mariefred, Sweden, the VFFI press release said.

‘Dwarfina’ stars
at Rob March 19

GMA TV 13 Bacolod, in partnership with Robinson’s Place, is holding a Kapuso Mall Show featuring primetime stars from GMA’s top rating telefantasya “Dwarfina” 4 p.m. March 19, to further heat up Robinson’s Hot Summer Sale, a press release from the television network said.

Dwarfina herself, played by actress Heart Evangelista, together with Will Devaughn, Mico Aytona and Kylie Padilla will entertain Bacoleños. Kids aged 3 to 10 years are also invited to join the Dwarfina Costume Contest at 3 p.m. of March 19, the press release said.

Assembly of participants is at 1 p.m. at the Fountain Area. Registration period is from March 12–18 at the Information Counter (West Arcade) of the mall. Cash prizes and gift certificates await the winners. Meanwhile, 5,000 people stormed SM City Bacolod Event Centre, recently to witness the Kapuso Mall Show featuring Nita Negrita’s young and promising love team, Joshua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza by their fans, with co-star Lexie Fernandez. Party Pilipinas’ Mark Herras also heated up the dance floor, a press release from GMA Bacolod said.

GMA hosts John Arceo and Sam Jalandoni opened the afternoon followed by an energetic performance by the Bing Sendico dancers, and a Lady Gaga song number from local diva Kimberly Fernandez. Various fun games were participated in by the crowd, with the winners taking home loot bags with GMA items, the press release said.

Wild shrieks of the Kapuso fans began when Lexie Fernandez entered the stage with a song number. Next up was teen heartthrob, Joshua Dionisio, and love team Barbie Forteza who each rendered a song. The two stayed for a duet. Mark Herras sang Harana and showed his dance moves, the press release added.*

Kapitan Ramon
winners named

The Brainsbee Ni Albee Sa District 3 gathered a sizable number of young hopefuls who joined the barangay eliminations held at the Don Felix T. Lacson Memorial National High School Friday, despite the recent tragedy in Barangay Kapitan Ramon, Silay City, a press release from the office of Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said.

Grade 6 pupil Jeanrose Flores, 12, bested the 48 participants in the BRAINSBEE spelling contest. She was accompanied by her teacher-coach Crismarie Malacama and principal Gilda Marque.

Flores who will graduate on April 6 is running for valedictorian of the graduating class, the press release said.

Fifty-one high school students of Kapitan Ramon joined the math and science quiz and third year high school student of Don Felix T. Lacson Memorial National High School Marjorie Amoyan emerged as the winner, it also said.

Her teachers and coach Hazel Cruz and Rogelio Gardo as well as Principal Leila Rando were also present, the press release said.

Flores and Amoyan will represent Barangay Kapitan Ramon in the citywide eliminations slated March 26. Both received cash prizes of P 700 each, it added.*
