Her birthday surprise
The blessing of the N & M building in front of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital at Lacson Street coincided with the birthday of Mellie Mejica Leonardia, the lovely wife of Adolfo “Nene” Leonardia. Happily married for 42 years now, they have three children, Glenn married to Rizza Lacson with three daughters; Lisa married to Dr. Renan Sanchez with two boys and a girl; and the youngest, Joebert, who is still enjoying life as a bachelor.
It was a week-long secret plan of Nene and his children to surprise Mom with a dinner at the L’Fisher Hotel La Proa Ballroom.
It was almost 6 p.m. when the guests at the N & M blessing left and all of them were feeling a little bit tired, when, out of the blue, Nene announced that the family would have dinner at L’Fisher Hotel–Ripples. Mellie wanted to go straight home to rest, but later said “Yes” when Nene and the children insisted. It was her birthday, after all.
They parked at the Chalet area, and when they passed La Proa Ballroom, Nene opened the door and it was very dark inside. Mellie also peeped and suddenly all the lights were switched on and everybody inside started singing “Happy Birthday!”. The hall was beautifully decorated with balloons in all colors, red roses on every table and, on the stage a big backdrop saying “Happy Birthday Mom!”
Poor Mellie, who was still in her office wear, could only gape at her well-dressed well wishers!
After the kissing and greeting, dinner was served. We all enjoyed the food, while exchanging pleasantries with friends and relatives you have not seen for ages. To Mellie, may you have more birthdays to celebrate and God bless you and your family!
Remember: God sometimes strips us of everything, so that when we have nothing, we have him, and when we have him, we have everything.*
