TF Kasaligan warns
students vs. drug use

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Ground commander Miguel Dungog of Task Force Kasalingan cautioned parents of high school students in Dumaguete City to monitor their whereabouts after receiving reports that they indulge in illegal drug activities, particularly smoking marijuana.

Dungog said that after the final examinations, these youngsters may find themselves in the company of students who have access to marijuana and conducting pot sessions or tripping.  A matchbox of the substance can be bought for only P50, he said.

A week ago, more than a kilo of dried marijuana leaves with seeds and stalks were confiscated from a suspected peddler in Sitio Canday-ong, Barangay Calindagan, in Dumaguete, one of the areas classified as greatly affected by the proliferation of illegal drugs all over Negros Oriental.

Nabbed during the buy-bust operation was Shanely Merced, alias “Butchok,” who yielded more than one kilo of dried marijuana leaves and marked money.

In an interview, “Butchok” said he got his stocks from Badian, Cebu, but do not know his supplier because the order is only through text and he just picks up the order at a designated place.

Dungog said it was possible that several kilos of dried marijuana leaves have been delivered  in different parts of the province, and reiterated his reminder for parents to take an active part in minimizing, if not putting a stop, to the drug menace.*JG
