Slain rebels’
relatives to get aid

Philippine Army 302nd Brigade commander, Col. Manuel Ochoterena, welcomed the support of Gov. Roel Degamo what provided assistance to the family of the alleged NPA members and an alleged leader of a non government organization  in Negros Oriental.

The provincial government will give P5,000 as financial assistance each to the family of Jocelyn Benlot and Lando Sueto.

Ochotorena said the provincial government is also willing to extend financial assistance to the family of Jonathan Alforque, but no relatives have claimed his cadaver. Karapatan has denied that he is a member of their group as alleged by the military.

Ochotorena said he will ask the governor to also extend some assistance to Marvin Villegas, who is now recuperating at Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.

He said they want to express the message to the public that the government is willing to give help without discrimination.

During the 114th AFP Anniversary, a short moment of silence was offered for the eternal repose of the three suspected NPA members killed during the encounter in Santa Catalina.*MA
