Guv joins summit
on Visayan Sea

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he is joining three other governors in a two-day Visayan Sea Summit that begins today at the Shangrila in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

The other governors attending the summit are Gwendolyn Garcia of Cebu, Arthur Defensor of Iloilo, and Rizalina Seachon-Leanete of Masbate.

On November 2010, the four governors signed a declaration on Carbin Reef in Sagay City committing to the use their collective powers and resources to restore and conserve the marine resources of the Visayan Triangle beginning with the Visayan Sea.

Garcia said at the summit today “We will together craft the Visayan Sea Constitution and Action Plan at the summit to restore the unparalleled wealth of the Visayan Sea.”

The participants at the summit will also make commitments on policy legislation and a time-bound plan, she added.*CPG
