Elderly get social pension
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

At least 59 indigent senior citizens in Dumaguete City received their three-month social pension from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Friday, at the DSWD Women’s Center.

George Villamor of the Office of Senior Citizens Association said each indigent senior citizen who is entitled to P500 a month received P1,500 as social pension for three months.

Of the beneficiaries, 32 are new, and 27 beneficiaries had not received their pension in the previous turnover ceremony.

They were identified by the National Housing Targeting System of the DSWD and validated by the Office of Senior Citizens’ Associations, barangay officials and social workers in the city.

Evaine Gladys Manzano, Social Welfare Officer II of DSWD-7 handed the cash to the pensioners with Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria and staff of the City Social Welfare Office present.

Sagarbarria, in his message, told the beneficiaries that the city government will continue to help them and lauded the national government for the funds.*JFP
