‘Habal-habal’ driver nabbed
for illegal gun possession

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Police arrested Monday afternoon the diver of “habal-habal” or motorcycle-for-hire for alleged illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and for certain traffic violations, at a checkpoint along the national highway in Sitio Cabaron, Barangay Tagbino, Vallehermoso town.

The suspect, identified as Junrey Escora, 30, married, of Barangay Quezon in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, allegedly failed to present a driver’s license and registration papers of his motorcycle, an initial police report said.

The Vallehermoso police were conducting a mobile checkpoint Monday afternoon after a reported shooting incident in Sitio Pinapanan, Barangay Pinocawan in the town.

Upon seeing the checkpoint ahead, Escora allegedly tried to turn back but police personnel caught up with him and saw something bulging in his waistband. A search yielded a homemade .38 caliber revolver with five round of live ammunition.

The police also recovered several live rounds of .45 caliber ammunition inside a plastic bag and concealed in the U-box of his motorcycle, whose registration was later traced to a certain Eric Gimarangan from Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Police are still investigating Escora whether he was involved in shooting incidents in the area.*JFP
