The eggplant split recipe from Sibulan in Negros Oriental won the first prize during the 6th Buglasan Lutong Garbo competition held Saturday at the Provincial Agriculture conference hall.
Winner Angelita Licerio bested 16 other contingents with her authentic and non-traditional way of cooking eggplant. She had been first place winner in the same competition in 2006 and 2008. She received a P10,000 cash prize and a trophy.
Sibulan town is the first to earn the grand slam award for the Lutong Garbo competition.
Second placer was Carlito Ledon from Jimalalud with his entry Bukolaknok, a combination of young coconut, squash flower and chicken. He received P7,000 cash prize and a trophy.
The Fisherman’s Delight with sweet potato sauce recipe from Amlan town won P5,000 on cash prize and a trophy.
The non-winners received P2,500 each as consolation prize with an additional P600 given to all participants personally given by Governor Roel Degamo.
The 6th Buglasan Lutong Garbo competition theme is “Discovering, Developing and Promoting the Negros Oriental Culinary Heritage.”
Degamo said he was impressed with the recipes from indigenous ingredients. He suggested to Lutong Garbo committee chairperson Sylvia Uy that they come up with a cookbook on a compilation of all the winning recipes.
Uy said they are trying to compile all the Lutong Garbo best recipes and the cook book will soon be launched.*MA
