‘Drug pusher’ shot
dead in Tanjay

A suspected drug pusher in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, who managed to evade arrest in a raid early this month, was shot dead recently by a still unidentified gunmen.

A police report identified the suspect as a certain Rodolfo Justalero Jr., 34, a resident of Poblacion, Tanjay City.

The suspect, who was driving a motorcycle rode up to the victim at Bonifacio Street and shot him with a .45 caliber pistol, police investigation showed.

Buglasan organizers
strengthen security

Organizers of the ongoing Buglasan Festival 2011 in Negros Oriental reassured the public that maximum efforts are being extended to provide security and safety to the public.

First aid and emergency medical services throughout the entire festival celebration which runs until October 23 are also ready, they said.

Mariant Escaño-Villegas, chairman of the Negros Oriental Culture and Arts Foundation Inc., a non-government group tasked to manage the Buglasan affairs this year, admitted the need to review and fine-tune an emergency response contingency plan, in view of Friday’s incident where a band member died of a heart attack on stage during the opening program of the festival.

‘Habal-habal’ driver nabbed
for illegal gun possession

Police arrested Monday afternoon the diver of “habal-habal” or motorcycle-for-hire for alleged illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and for certain traffic violations, at a checkpoint along the national highway in Sitio Cabaron, Barangay Tagbino, Vallehermoso town.

The suspect, identified as Junrey Escora, 30, married, of Barangay Quezon in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, allegedly failed to present a driver’s license and registration papers of his motorcycle, an initial police report said.

The Vallehermoso police were conducting a mobile checkpoint Monday afternoon after a reported shooting incident in Sitio Pinapanan, Barangay Pinocawan in the town.
