St. John’s Institute dominated their rivals in Group A of the Junior Boy’s NOPSSCEA Basketball at the West Negros University Gymnasium.
The defending champion SJI Falcons ended their elimination round undefeated in four games. They kicked off their title retention campaign with a 91-68 rout of Tay Tung High School, and followed it up with a victory over Bacolod Christian College of Negros, 147-38.
In a back-to-back game last weekend, they scored more than 300 points against Jack & Jill, 172-27, and Trinity Christian School 130-33.
Kirrel Branhdon Montalbo delivered a rare double-double of 20 points 20 assists plus seven boards and six steals to lead the Falcons over TCS.
Five of his teammates reached double figures with Leland Dusaban hitting 22 points and had 4 assists, Jai Arroyo and Zoey Pandan shot 18 points each, EJ De Leon delivered 17 points, and Carlo Sian with 16 points.
Montinola scored 10 points, Don Odango and Joshua Vidal added 8 points each in a losing effort.
Against Jack & Jill, 9 of the 10 SJI players fielded in registered double figures with Carlo Sian leading the charge with 33 points, De Leon contributed 26, Pandan added 25, Montalbo picked up 22 points, Arroyo had 16, Emil Japzon made 14, Dusaban, Alec Rojas and Mark Kho with 10 points each.
Expected to top the other three brackets that will be finishing their elimination round this weekend are University of St. La Salle- IS, West Negros University, and UNO-Recoletos.*with a report from Stephen Tan
