2011 GAEV chessfest
opens today at Captel

A total of  118 players, including seven National masters, led by defending champion NM Sander Severino, will compete in a week-long 2011 3rd George Aguirre/Eugenio Villanueva Memorial Negros Open Individual Chess Tournament starting today at the Montelibano Hall of Captel Hotel located at North Capitol Road-Gatuslao Street in Bacolod City.

Matches will start after the opening ceremony with Kanlandog Lions Club president Laurence Villanueva as guest speaker.

Other National Masters, who are joining the tournament are Rodrigo Atotubo, Rodolfo Toledo, Edwin Tan, Alfred Acaling III, Houri Amed and female NM Ronalie Toledo.

The tournament will start from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the opening day. Awarding ceremonies will be on October 25. The tournament is a 7-Round Swiss (1-hr 20 moves + 1-hr to finish the game).

Up for grabs are top honors in the open, female and kiddies. Champion in the Open category will take home P10,000 cash prize and the championship trophy, while the winners in the female and kiddies events will also receive cash prizes and trophies.

The tournament is part of the 32nd Masskara celebration of Bacolod City.*NAB
