Davies captures crown
in Open Trio bowlfest

Davies bowlers won the two-day 1st Negros Professional Bowlers Club/AIM Fitness Gym Open Trio Bowling Championship at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

Hernand Garciniego of the NPBC RJ Stars won the master’s title.

The Davies pin crushers composed of Felipe Boy Romero Jr., Munching Guinson, Joe Latoza, Edgar Jerez, and Rommel Jover overpowered TNT Construction/Easyweld led by Nonoy Ruiz in the deciding contest, 343-318.

Latoza led his team with 127, while Romero and Guinson contributed 109 and 107 each. Mandoy Hervias topscored for TNT with 113.

The champion squad defeated the twice-to-beat TNT in the first game, 365-339, to win a rubber match in the final showdown.

Jerez’s group will face the top seed after beating Steve Po’s NPBC/RJ Stars in the semifinals, 358-334.

In the individual contest, Garciniego beat Ronald Fernandez of Silverado/ASSFBI in the battle for the master bowler title, 126-124, in the deciding match.

Fernandez outscored Garciniego in their first game encounter, 113-125.

Seeded No.3, he took the opportunity to challenge the No.1 seed by outclassing Mandoy Hervias of  TNT in the quarterfinal, 130-100, then followed it up with a 113-112 squeaker over teammate Norman Pineda in the semifinals.

Fourteen teams participated in the competition.

Meanwhile, the Active Solid Strikers Fellowship Bowlers Inc. Pre-MassKara Open Trio Tournament, in cooperation with Kabataang Barangay, will begin Sept.24 and 25 also at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza.

The organizing group is inviting bowling enthusiasts in Negros to participate in the event.

Gift certificates and trophies are at stake for the winners.
