Two persons claiming to be members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade were arrested yesterday for illegal possession of firearms by members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit in Brgy. Patag, Silay City.
The arrested persons were identified as Erwin Galagate and Bernie Casipe, both 20 years old, who also identified themselves as RPA-ABB members.
Supt. Rosauro Francisco, Silay police chief, yesterday said their arrest yielded a .38 caliber revolver with two live ammunition, and a homemade 9mm Colt Luger pistol with a magazine containing eight bullets.
For failure to present documents authorizing them to possess and carry the guns, Francisco said the two were immediately charged yesterday before the Silay City Prosecutor’s Office, for illegal possession of firearms.
He said the City Prosecutor’s Office has recommended P120,000 as bail for Casipe, for having in his possession a high-powered gun, while a P60,000 bail was recommended for Galagate.
Initial police investigations showed that members of the Silay Bantay Bukid Brigade and Brgy. Capt. Milagros Catalina were having a meeting at the Nursery Hall of Brgy. Patag, when they noticed the presence of two armed men, who were later arrested by CAFGU members stationed in the place.
Francisco said the two alleged RPA-ABB members are not allowed to carry firearms outside their designated area, unless their guns are covered with licenses.
Galagate and Casipe, who are now in jail, claimed to be RPA-ABB members under the command of a certain JC Casipe, alias Ka Maitan, initial police investigations showed.
Meanwhile, a suspected marijuana pusher was arrested yesterday at the school campus of the Doña Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City, for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002.
Francisco said the arrest during a buy-bust operation of Arnie Buison, 26, of Gomez Street, Brgy. 2, Silay City yielded two sticks of suspected marijuana cigarets and P40 in marked money.*GPB
