Kin of slain KAUGMAON chair
score inaction of police officers

The alleged failure of police to arrest the suspect in the killing of Rene “Toto” Quirante was scored yesterday by the family.

The KAUGMAON chairman, also of Anak Pawis Partylist, was killed on Oct. 1, 2010 in Sitio Amomoyong, Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.

Emilia Quirante, his sister, said the warrant of arrest against Leonel Librado, whose aliases are “Art” and “Dennis” was issued last February, and in April, Librado appeared in San Carlos City courts as a witness against Rogina Quilop who was accused of arson.

She said Librado was not arrested after he testified against Quilop, although he had a pending arrest warrant.

Christian Tuayon, Bayan-Negros chairperson claimed that Quirante is the first victim of extra-judicial killings in Negros under President Benigno Aquino III.

He added that they were also frustrated at the poor justice system and the actions of the military since Librado, along with two other suspects, were identified as members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit of the 11th Infantry Battalion troops in the province.*LTG
