Cops review, discuss
security at city malls

The Bacolod City police met with the management of SM City and of Robinson’s Place Bacolod last week to discuss and review their security measures.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz yesterday said the meeting was held following the three shooting incidents at SM City Iloilo, North Edsa, and Pampanga.

During the meeting, that was also attended by representatives of some security agencies, the city police gave several suggestions on how to further improve their security measures, to ensure the safety of the mall goers, De la Paz said.

Among them was that security guards should not depend only on the metal detectors and should conduct thorough body searches on all mall goers so no contrabands can get into the malls, he also said.

De la Paz added that they suggested that security guards should not only focus on the main entrances but also at other entry and exit points of the malls.

He said that the meeting was part of their preventive measures so that what happened in other SM city malls in the country will not happen in Bacolod.*APN

NBI help sought
to solve slay

The Bacolod City Police sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation to solve the brutal killing of a call center employee, whose naked body was found in his rented room at a pension house in the city last week, City Police Director, Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, said yesterday.

Call center employee Ian Sherwin Sandoval, 34, of Victorias City, Negros Occidental sustained 18 stab wounds and died from loss of blood, an autopsy report showed.

De la Paz said Station1 commander Chief Insp. Ulysses Ortiz told him the room boy of Ester Pension House at Araneta Street, Bacolod had retracted his earlier identification of the suspect, said to be a callboy, or male prostitute, through pictures recovered from the crime scene as the person he last saw with Sandoval before he was found dead.

De la Paz, therefore said, they will ask the NBI for a facial composite sketch instead so they can establish who the killer is.

He said they are also looking into the possibility that the room boy was threatened by the suspect and that is why he changed his statements.

The Bacolod City police could not determine the motive for the killing as his valuables, like his watch, ring and cellular phone, were not touched, De la Paz said.*APN
