The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental has recorded P6,450,765 in revenuesfrom veterinary shipping permits and confiscated 1.5 tons of poultry meat from Banago and BREDCO Ports last year, Dr. Renante Decena said, yesterday.
Decena said PVO is heightening its security in issuing shipping permits and allowing entry of processed meat and poultry products in the province to ensure safety.
The collection and the confiscation show that they are serious in implementing the rules and regulations of PVO and their priority is to make sure that all meat coming in and going out of the province are safe, he said.
PVO also conducted animal health extension and quarantineservices to 989,389 farm animals. They performed deworming, diagnosis, treatment, and castration to livestock and poultry animals, Dr. MeriAnn Adlaon, vet mission coordinator said.
Adlaon said they conducted veterinary missions in 15 barangays inNegros Occidental and performed animal health extension services.
Decena also said there was no disease outbreak in the poultry and livestock sector, but they are always prepared if there will be any.
Animal raisers and dispersal beneficiaries were also reminded to provide proper nutrition and shelter to the animals since there are sudden changes in weather conditions.
He also encouraged them to attend and participate in trainings and seminars organized by the PVO to improve their animal management and raising techniques.*LTG
