‘Cell site attack planned’
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Chief Insp. Errol Garchitorena Jr., police chief of Guihulngan City, yesterday said the attack on a cell site of Globe Telecom in Barangay Hilaitan Monday was “apparently planned” by the perpetrators.

Garchitorena said this was not the first incident of “harassment” by the culprits, who, police believe, are members of the New People’s Army.

He also said the police learned this week that last December 11, unidentified men bore a hole at the chain link fence surrounding the Globe cell site.

Nobody from Globe had reported this to the police until after the explosion, that damaged the collapsible van that housed the control panel, Garchitorena said.

Investigation also showed that minutes after the blast, at least two men on board a motorcycle fired warning shots in the air before speeding off along the national highway, Garchitorena added.

He also said that one of the witnesses, Danny Carampatan, told the police that he and other neighbors heard a pumpboat leave the shores of Hilaitan.*JFP
