The Department of Health in Negros Oriental has reported a decline in the number of diarrhea cases in Valencia, Negros Oriental, but town residents are asked to continue boiling their water prior to drinking.

Dr. Socrates Villamor, DOH-Negros Oriental chief, said that 199 diarrhea cases had been reported in Valencia after tropical storm Sendong brought floods to the province.

Valencia, whose water supply was totally cut off after the storm, was reportedly the worst hit among the 10 areas in province of Negros Oriental by “Sendong”.

RPA man shot dead
by minor in Tanjay

Police investigators are still investigating the fatal shooting of a member of the Revolutionary Proletariat Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB), by a teenage girl in Barangay Azagra, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, Thursday.

A police report said that at around 9:45 p.m. Juwane Barillo, 36, said to be a member of the RPA-ABB, forced his way into the house of the suspect, “Marie Rose” (not her real name), in Sitio Kandangki. Azagra,, and allegedly threatened to kill her family.

“Marie Rose”, 17, allegedly shot Barillo with a 9-millimeter pistol, killing him instantly, police reports said.

Swertres collector
nabbed, another escapes

A suspected “swertres” collector was arrested at around 2:15 p.m. Thursday in Tanjay City.

Police reports identified the suspect as Nicasio Duran, 47, married, and a resident of central or “Poblacion” Village 3 in Tanjay City.

Tanjay PNP chief Domeneciano Distrito Jr., who led operatives from the police Special Operations Group, swooped down on Duran and arrested him for alleged involvement in the illegal numbers game, “swertres”.
