Bacordo cases non-bailable
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The case of Don Salvador Benedicto Councilor Vicente Bacordo, who is now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management Penology facility in San Carlos City, should be brought up first by the concerned local government unit to the Office of the Governor, before they can act on it, Jose Ma. Valencia, chief of staff of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said.

Bacordo faces charges of murder , kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms before the San Carlos City Regional Trial Court.

Valencia, who also serves as the Provincial Legal Officer, said the provincial government cannot act unilaterally on the case of Bacordo, who was denied bail for murder.

He said they will act on it as soon as the concerned local government unit (Don Salvador Benedicto) will bring it up to Governor Marañon.

Bacordo, who was arrested with four companions in November last year, for illegal possession of firearms in San Carlos City, were, however, granted bail of P80,000 each by the San Carlos RTC.

Three members of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade, who figured in a shoot- out with the companions of Bacordo, were also granted bail by the court, police records also showed.
If a government official commits mistakes, he should face it squarely in court, Valencia said.

The kidnapping and murder charges against Bacordo, that had been archived for so many years, was revived, after the police found out that his amnesty application has not been acted upon by the government.

Bacordo was tagged as a former leader of an armed independent group in the late 1980’s before he joined the New People’s Army in northern Negros. After his arrest in 1994, where joined the mainstream society, he became a barangay captain and later a councilor of Don Salvador Benedicto town.

His apprehension and that of four companions, and of three other RPA-ABB members in San Carlos City, yielded four .45 caliber pistols, an Ingram machine pistol, a US carbine rifle, a 357 magnum and a .38 caliber revolvers.* GPB
