VMC posts 34% growth in
2012 consolidated net

The Victorias Milling Corp. said in a press release yesterday that it had achieved a consolidated net income of P556 million in 2012, up from P400M in 2011 and P310 million in 2010

The firm's management continued its efforts on machinery and equipment upgrade and modernization, intended to improve factory efficiencies and product quality, the press release said.

There is also a significant improvement in the company's capital structure, posting a net equity of P1.8 billion this year, from a net capital deficiency of P1.8 billion in 2005.

Green Alert hits
biotech confab

Environmental group Green Alert Negros called the International Conference on the Adoption of Biotech Crops in the Developing World to be held today at the Hyatt Manila a “diabolical summoning of Biotech Godzillas”, its press release said.

GAN claimed that the conference aims to increase the profit of certain companies by manipulating and patenting life through modern biotech.

The conference is organized by The John Templeton Foundation, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications, the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture, the National Academy of Science And Technology Philippines and the Agricultural Biotechnology Support Project II, the press release said.
