DSWD evaluates scholars

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas has evaluated the 19 scholars of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in Negros Oriental in preparation for school year 2013-2014.

The Students Grant-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation provides children of 4Ps beneficiaries the opportunity to enroll in college, a government press release said.

The SGP-PA support amounts to P60,000 a year, including tuition and other school fees for two semesters, textbooks and other learning materials, and P3,500 monthly stipend for 10 months.

The scholars were mostly enrolled at the Cebu Normal University that accommodated 155 scholars in courses, like the Bachelor of Science in Tourism, Special Education and Early Education.

DSWD provides board and lodging to the scholars until their allowances are released and they are able to find boarding houses recommended by the school for those who come from the towns, the press release also said.

The yearend assessment aims to monitor and manage each scholar, DSWD-7 4Ps focal person Aileen Lariba said.

Tutorials and one-on-one mentoring were made available for the scholar, and the teachers, she added.

Meanwhile, the DSWD will gather municipal information officers in Negros Oriental for its Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan–Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services project on April 3-4 in Dumaguete City for a planning workshop, the press release also said.*
