Panaad boxing tourney

Aspiring national boxers from Candoni town, Negros Occidental, form this year's overall champion in the recent 20th Panaad sa Negros Boxing Tournament.

Candoni secured the tilt's top spot after five of its boxers won in their respective weight categories in the final round.

Timothy Inlatera in the 26-kilogram category defeated Kim Catedrilla of Himamaylan City, while Jude Rendon (40 kgs), who will also compete in the Palarong Pambansa, won via unanimous decision against Mark Mahilum of San Carlos City.

Negros jins secure finals berth

The Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers will compete in this year's Carlos Palanca Jr. Taekwondo National Championship after defeating their rivals over the weekend.

NTU-Tigers amassed 16 gold and six silver medals to top the Visayas leg of the completion held at Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center in Bacolod City.

Members of NTU-Tigers who will advance in the finals are gold medalists Marielle Berunio in grade school novice (112-120 cm) and David Pecha in grade school boy's novice (120-128 cm).

Silay City launches
barangay sports tilt

The Silay City Inter-Barangay Sportsfest 2013 was opened at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City yesterday, by City Councilors Ireneo Celis, Jr., Joedith Gallego and Edgardo Maravilla, and also of the basketball tournament, in behalf of Mayor Jose Montelibano and Vice-Mayor Mark Golez.

With them were former Vice-Mayor Warlito Go, Barangay Captain Jose Lopez of Barangay Guinhalaran, Pastor Trooper, Silay Sports Coordinator Hectort Gamboa, Glenn Dacula, Aldwin Dalpatan and the 13 barangay participants. Genaro Estranero hosted the event.

The event began with a parade from the Silay City Hall to the gym where the councillors gave messages and the presentation of muses followed. The Oath of Amateurism was led by former basketball MVP Jose Maria Diado of Barangay Guinhalaran.
