La Salle students
join camp

Three students and the program assistant of the Institute for Negros Development of the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City participated in a youth camp on local knowledge, “Re-discover. Connect. Share.”, held at the University of San Carlos–Talamban Campus in Cebu, a press release from the USLS said.

They were Jeffrey Lazaro of IND and students Alexandra Soledad, John Caldan Briones and Keith Brandon Cana-an .

The activity was organized by the Asian University Digital Resource Network, with support from Miriam College and the University of San Carlos. It also included educational tours to Lapu-lapu, the Sama-Bajau Community, Carbon Market and Carcar, the press release added.*

Bago, La Carlota youths
receive livelihood grants

Fifty-two youth leaders from the cities of Bago and La Carlota in Negros Occidental completed their skills and leadership training under the Rafael M. Salas Nature Park: Youth Commitment for Sustainable Development project recently, a press release from organizers said.

The project was implemented by the RMS Park and Nature Center, United Nations Population Fund and the University of St. La Salle, through the Institute of Negros Development.

Cash grants of P4,000 were given to the youth leaders as starting funds for their proposed livelihood projects, by USLS-IND director Rhoderick Samonte, Bago senior environment specialist Vicente Mesias, and RMSPNC executive director Carmelita Salas, the press release also said.

Almasiga saplings were given to the participants, whose trainings included environmental conservation, leadership and sustainable development for the RMSPNC and neighboring communities.

USLS Vice Chancellor for Mission and Development, Geoffrey Bob Bergante, lauded the efforts of program partners and stakeholders from the government and non-government sectors, including the Bago, La Carlota and the province of Negros Occidental.*

‘Zumbathon' tonight at mall

A special Zumbathon/Power Combat presentation will be held at The District, North Point Ayala Mall Corte, at 6 tonight in line with the Autism Week observance, a press release from organizers said.

Special guest is Nell Astudillo, Power Combat instructor and fitness guru from Davao City, and everyone is invited to witness the free presentation, the press release added.*

AAB-N officers elected

The Art Association of Bacolod-Negros members elected their new sets of officers recently at the Art House in San Juan Street, Bacolod City.

Elected president was Marisol Alquizar, vice president – Nunistell Mae Fulo-Lee, secretary – Chrysee Samillano, treasurer – Dan Dojillo, auditor – Butch Libo-on and PIO – Pol Bautista.

The members of the Board of Directors are Rodney Martinez, Jecky Alano, Bert Berondo, Ramon de los Santos and Bong Jakosalem.

Outgoing AAB-N president Corazon Golez is ex-oficio director.

The members of the screening committee were Golez, Martinez, Alano, Dojillo and Berondo.*
