Military hit for escorting
politician, ‘armed goons’

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The New People’s Army Leonardo Panaligan Command slammed the Army’s 302nd Infantry Brigade for allegedly allowing its soldiers to escort a politician and her alleged armed goons, while campaigning in the areas of Canlaon City and Guihulngan in Negros Oriental.

Ka JB Regalado, spokesman of the Leonardo Panaligan Command, in a statement, said this only indicated that its commander, Col. Francisco Patrimonio, is tolerating the activities of traditional politicians to intimidate people in the countryside, in the guise of their Peace and Development campaign.

Regalado also criticized Col. Jon Aying, newly-installed commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, for allegedly allowing a mayor in central Negros to terrorize the Hacienda Benito in Brgy Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla and other towns in the 5th district.

He accused Patrimonio and Aying for tolerating terrorism under the Oplan Bayanihan campaign of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The Leonardo Panaligan Command had earlier claimed responsibility for the ambush-slay of eight civilians and a policeman in La Castellana, that also caused the injuries to 10 others.

Regalado further claimed that some soldiers stationed in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, are engaged in peddling and use of shabu.

Contrary to military claims, he said, the NPA in central Negros is getting stronger, and that they were able to increase their expansion areas by about 25 percent and its strength by 40 percent.*GPB
