Another new Palaro record for WV;
cagers, booters advance to semifinals

Runner Joida Gagnao from Guimaras gifted Western Visayas another record-breaking mark yesterday as she reigned in secondary girls 1,500 meters with a time of 4 minutes and 45.2 seconds to erase the 4:47.9 record set by Polocornia Bolobo in 1991.

Gagnao’s new record came on the heels of a double gold from Christopher Lirazan and Jealyn Lancita in secondary boys and girls’ 400 meters, and Erwin Parcon in secondary boys’ 5,000 meters.

Western Visayas secondary boys and girls’ basketball teams also prevailed over their respective rivals yesterday to advance into the semifinals of the 2013 Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete City.

R-VI dominates table tennis

Bannered by paddlers from Negros Occidental, the Western Visayas table tennis team won three of the four table tennis titles at the 2013 Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete City yesterday.

WVRAA bagged the gold in elementary girls and secondary boys and girls’ team championship and shared the bronze with the National Capital Region in the elementary boys’ department to secure more points for Region VI in the overall tally.

The champion elementary girls’ team, composed of Ann Angela Borbon, Edria Garganian, Jesseline Emille Mallen and Alyssa Toleco, beat Northern Mindanao in the final round, to win the gold, while NCR and Cotabato shared the bronze.

Batch ’84 prevails
in bowlfest

Batch ’84 was champion of the premiere division, while Batch ’91 and B’90 led the Category B and C of the 2013 Negros Occidental High Scholl General Alumni Homecoming Bowlfest For Unity at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

Batch’84 led by Ruby Barbosa topped the eliminations then beat Class ’82 of Cesar Sumaylo in the final round to win, 538-529.

Class ’82 beat Class’66 of Edgar Baldonado in the semifinals, 521-516, while the latter won over Batch ’95 of Essho Garcia in the quarterfinals.
