Another fire hit four houses in Purok Pag-asa, Brgy. Estefania in Bacolod City, several hours after the blaze in Brgy. Banago that burned 206 houses Wednesday.
Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva, Bacolod Bureau of Fire investigator, said two houses were destroyed and two were damaged when fire believed caused by an unattended kerosene lamp, broke out at about 10:30 p.m.
There were no injuries or fatalities reported but the damages were estimated to be P60,000, Silva said.
Investigation conducted showed that the blaze started at the house of Neneth Ode, and immediately spread to the nearby houses made of light materials, Silva said.
The fire also destroyed the house of Concepcion Espinosa and damaged two other houses owned by Eduardo Martir Sr. and Jimmy Cordova.
Three fire trucks from the Bacolod Bureau of Fire Protection were dispatched to the area and were assisted by those of the Amity and the Chinese Chamber fire volunteers, who declared the fire under control at about 11 p.m.
One of the fire victims, Natividad Martir, 72, yesterday said the fire spread so fast that they were not able to save their things. However, her Bibles were not burned although they were drenched when firemen tried to put out the fire, she said.
Martir said they were given assistance by the City’s Department of Social Services and Development and have decided to sleep in their house since it was not destroyed by the fire.*Shiela G. Gelera
