Gilas Pilipinas pounced on Japan, 90-71, last night to start strong in the second round of the 27th FIBA Asia Championships at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
That boosted the morale of the Philippine Team after the heartbreaking loss in the hands of the Chinese Taipei in the first round of the competition, Saturday.
Negrense Jeff Chan, once again, delivered a stellar performance for the Filipinos by finishing the game with 16 points, converting four out of his five attempts from the three-point area.
Marcus Douthit topscored for Gilas with 19 points and was flawless from the free throw area.
Meanwhile, Qatar, Chinese Taipei and Iran also hurdled their first assignment in the second round with Qatar beating Jordan, 75-61, Iran crushing India, 102-58, and Chinese Taipei demolishing Hong Kong, 94-55.
Gilas will face Qatar tonight, at 8:30 p.m. and will clash against Hongkong tomorrow.*NAB
