Seedlings available
for free at agri office

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Provincial Agriculture Office of Negros Oriental is giving out fruit and hardwood tree seedlings for free in line with the campaign to combat climate change and flooding.

Provincial Agriculturist Greg Paltinca said yesterday that the provincial nursery is continuously propagating seeds and growing seedlings of various tree species, like indigenous hardwood and fruit-bearing trees.

He added that the provincial government has allocated funds, and a group has been created by the PAO to concentrate on growing seedlings and ensuring a high rate of survival.

He reminded Negrenses not just to plant trees but to ensure their growth, noting that in many instances, tree-planting activities were undertaken but without monitoring and follow-up, the saplings usually die.

Paltinca said they gave away seedlings that require minimum upkeep and can withstand intense weather conditions.*JFP
