The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental finally approved yesterday the loan sought for the completion of the Negros First CyberCentre in Bacolod City, but at a reduced amount from what Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. proposed.
On motion of Board Member Rolando Ponsica, chairperson of the SP Committee on Infrastructure, the SP approved the P157.5 million loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines, and not the P180 million originally proposed by Marañon.
Ponsica said the SP members agreed that P22.5 million will be taken from the general fund of the province, that will bring the total amount to P180 million.
The deliberations on the bank loans were initiated by the SP committees on Finance and on Infrastructure, headed by BMs Salvador Escalante and Ponsica, respectively.
The P180 million has been earmarked for the purchase of a standby generator, air-conditioning and ventilation system, construction of water and waste treatment facilities, site development, and passenger elevator for the Negros First CyberCentre.
The DBP had released P243.6 million to the province for the first phase of the cyber center.
Before its approval, Marañon, Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, and some board members met to discuss the loans.*GPB
