27TH FIBA ASIA
Gilas bows to Iran,
settles for silver

Gilas Pilipinas epic run en route to the finals of the 27th FIBA Asia ended with a silver medal and trophy last night as the Filipinos yielded to the mighty Iran, 85-71, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Making the silver finish sweeter was the inclusion of Philippines’ guard Jayson Castro in the mythical five selection of the tournament, who despite the glaring height difference, stood tall and proud alongside Iran’s giant and tournament most valuable player Hamed Hadadi.

Iranian forward Oshin Sahakian, South Korea’s shooter Kim Mingoo, and Chinese-Taipei’s small forward Lin Chih-Chieh completed the mythical five selection.
