Alcorin, Ramirez rule 10k Fun Run

For the second straight year, the Hua Ming Fun Run/Walk dubbed as “Run Ko Pag-asa Mo”, drew at least 1300 participants during the August 18 event at the North Point, Talisay City, a press release from the St. John’s Institute Alumni Association said.

Joel Alcorin crossed the finish line after 39 minutes and 34 seconds to win in the 10-kilometer distance male category, while Mareeiz Ramirez ruled the women’s group with her time of 45 minutes, the press release said.

Dino Pison finished second to Alcorin with a time of 41:59 as Justin Jay Picao settled for third place as he clocked in 43 minutes and 06 seconds.

Completing the 10k course behind Ramirez in the women’s category was Stephanie Cadusali (45:33) and Gella Mayang (50:33) for third place, the press release said.

Kolasa Batch ’77, whose members include Trish Golez, Salou Keuls and Elsie Gonzaga, won the 4k Batch Group Walk Category with a time of 36:00:19, the team of Rose Lacson, Angelie Yulo and Febe Malata of Kolasa Batch ‘82 placed second at 38:00:44 and SJI Batch ‘86 represented by Omay Demonteverde, Aljo Arceo, Erwin Villanueva and Eric Ybiernas ended up at third place with a time of 39:00:02.

Top three winners in the 5k – male, were: Arnel Tolentino (17:40), Johnny Mayongue (18:34) and Neil Villareal (21:29); 5k – female, Camille Tad-y (27:32) Sean Adenix (29:35) and Rhea Erika Carmona (29:52).

In the 3k event, the top three finishers were: (male) Johnny Mayongue, Anjie Javano, and Rowygin Adranela; (female) Ana Sophia Tison, Bianca de Paula, and Janet Tulmo.

Top three winners in 1k -- Felix Trespicios, Wednesday Rongo, and Elisa Rongo.

Meanwhile, equally having fun during the event were the runners in the kids category with Vine Hope Reyes, Jero Dumdum, and Austin Braganza topping the dash event, the press release said.

In the 4k Individual Walk, the top three finishers were Nestle Niuda, Rannie Ramos, and Dan Ramirez.

The top 3 winners of the different categories received medals, pillows, golf umbrellas, the press release also said.

Cash prizes were also awarded to the top three male and female winners in the 3km, 5km, 10 km as well as the top three Batch walk and individual walkers. Gift certificates from Kuppa, Imbiss Sausage and Steak Restobar, Masskara Chicken and Pancake House were also given to the winners.

The Fun Run/Walk project was organized by the SJI Alumni Association with the proceeds of the event going to the SJI Alumni Association Scholarship program, the press release said.

The program aims to give tuition subsidies to economically-challenged but academically responsible students to enable them to continue with their education in SJI the press release added.*
