Alcorin, Ramirez rule 10k Fun Run

For the second straight year, the Hua Ming Fun Run/Walk dubbed as “Run Ko Pag-asa Mo”, drew at least 1300 participants during the August 18 event at the North Point, Talisay City, a press release from the St. John’s Institute Alumni Association said.

Joel Alcorin crossed the finish line after 39 minutes and 34 seconds to win in the 10-kilometer distance male category, while Mareeiz Ramirez ruled the women’s group with her time of 45 minutes, the press release said.

Dino Pison finished second to Alcorin with a time of 41:59 as Justin Jay Picao settled for third place as he clocked in 43 minutes and 06 seconds.

Davies, Retro pace bowlfest

Davies and Retro Bowlers kept their positions in the Non-rated Trio Bowling Tournament of the NSL at the Super Lanes of the Goldenfield Commercial Complex in Bacolod City.

The Romel Jover-led Davies Team is first with 6,870 points, and Retro of Iran Pielago second with 6,829.

Active Solid Strikers Fellowship Bowlers Inc. had 6,681 for third place followed by Kami Mga Hubin with 6,572.

NANJING,China - Second seed Jurence Mendoza of the Philippines breezed past Hong Kit Wong of Hong Kong yesterday, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the semifinals of boys’ tennis in the second Asian Youth Games.

The 17-year-old Mendoza got off to a slow start against his unseeded rival and dropped the first game of the opening set. But he quickly recovered to take the first set with relative ease.

Mendoza, No. 89 in the world youth rankings, got off to a 2-0 start in the second set, dropped the next two and swept his opponent away with his steady baseline game.
